We look around our big beautiful studio and the cardinals in the trees and take a deep breath. What a gift to live on this green earth and hear the sewing machines humming, music playing, and our team enjoying their lunches together. We look at the rolls of natural fabric, hear the iron hiss and the crinkle of paper shipping bags bearing the Conscious Clothing logo…making their way across the country (and world!). We have a lot of be grateful for.
With some unexpected life changes and these moments of reflection_ we felt it was necessary to take some time to re-set this new year and look closely at our company and its initiatives. Choosing the small and sustainable way is not without its difficulties_ it takes work and intention to continue to make sustainable choices and not waver on principles for the sake of efficiency or to cut costs.
Far beyond making ethical clothing, we come back to our responsibility to care for our earth, everything that lives and moves on the planet…and our hopes for a better future (globally). We believe a lot of that starts with us_ our processes and the impact that is incurred with how we purchase, and who/what causes we support when we do so. Along with using only plant based fibers and sustainably sourced fabrics, here’s to transparency as we work to practice what we preach when it comes to eliminating waste and taking responsibility for our footprint.
ALL that being said, buying + making handmade comes with a price tag…and we recognize that so many of you purchase from us because you already know and you stand behind our ethics (thanks, by the way).
We created the following Infographic as a visual representation of what kind of “price” is attached to what we make. We want to acknowledge both our global and direct impact and acknowledge everything that goes into making clothing and our processes here. What goes into a garment, anyways?
